Jo Hilder has been committed to working for the empowerment
and support of cancer patients and survivors since 2004.
After surviving grade 3B Non -Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2003, Jo decided to leave a career
in retail management and creative design. She went on to roles with the NSW
Cancer Council as Relay For Life Co-Ordinator and Regional Programs Co-ordinator
in Coffs Harbour, after which she became a lead volunteer for the organisation. She led and
facilitated the Mid North Coast Cancer Action Network, a
consumer advocacy group committed to improving cancer services in regional
areas, and also helped to develop the Cancer Councils consumer advocacy program
for three years. Jo is also currently a lead volunteer facilitator for the
NSW Cancer Council's Living Well After Cancer Program.
Jo has been much in demand as a
motivational speaker, sharing about her own journey through cancer and into survivorship at conferences, Relay
For Life events and other engagements. In October 2008 she
appeared on Channel Nine's Wesley Mission television program Rise and Shine,
where she also performed her song Best Day for an Australia
Wide audience. She has also appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald (Nov.09) and on ABC
Radio.
Jo also holds a Cert. IV
in Pastoral Ministry with Southern Cross Bible College, and is currently
studying a
Bachelors Degree in Social Science - Counselling with the
Australian College of Applied Psychology.
Jo continues to develop the You Can
Survive program and will be releasing a range of print, dvd and cd resources in
2010.
