Wherein Lies Your Power

I believed my power was in my thinking, in my ability to reason,
In the intelligence of my arguments, in the busyness of my mind.
But when I searched for my power in all these things, it was not – it was not there.

I believed my power was in my strength, in my resistance,
In my courage, my fighting, my winning.
But when I searched for my power in all these things, it was not – it was not there.

I believed my power was in my achievements,
In my here and my there, in my success,
In my striving, my struggling,
and in my doing.
But when I searched for my power in all these things, it was not – it was not there.

So I sat down in the road, with my thoughts, my strength and my successes, and gently I lay them to the side. And I decided to simply be there, fully, with all I was without.

And there, in the dust, in the quiet and stillness, in being compassionate for my self in my search and my sojourn, and that in turn for others, in my being simply in the moment, and being grateful for all I found in that moment with me, in just being, I found it.

For there with me, within and without, lay all I sought and would ever seek. There lay my power.
